Hi everyone and welcome back to a new and improved Hogue Connection. Quick update: I’ve made some significant changes to my blog space for all readers and subscribers. I’d also like to share a new photo of an important ancestor that recently came my way. You’ll have to wait until the end for that, though.
New and Improved…Theme and Logo…
WordPress is the software platform I use to write this blog. A theme provides the basic building blocks within WordPress to give it it’s overall look. I used the last theme for over seven years; I thought it was time to change it up a bit. This new theme is a full-page format with more modern styling. It is very customizable and has widgets that I don’t even use. Plenty of opportunity down the road to grow into it.
The new logo I designed using Canha, a free website. I reviewed several themes and had fun with five or six new logo designs. With a bit of outside advice from Jane, I came up with the blog design you see in front of you. I hated to get rid of the home page picture, though, so I’ll repost it here:

This photo was taken in California (I think) around 1940. It’s My great grandmother Nora Gatlin Noble Hogue and her six sons. From left to right, Leonard, Clarence, Buford, Henry, Frank Noble, and Charlie.
New and Improved…Main Articles…
I took some time and did a rewrite of my two main articles on this site. Red River Trails, now found in the main menu under the Hogue History label, was made more concise by taking out most of my explanations of methodology. I also moved the sources (very important in family tree building) to a separate page. Our chronological history of known ancestors is now easier to follow and digest. As always, it will continue to evolve as more events come to light.
The same goes for my new and improved article about Hannah Hale, my fifth great grandmother who married a Muscogee Creek warrior. I shortened it by moving the sources to the separate page. I also added a new photo with more on the way. Both articles are now written with the idea of search engine optimization in mind. I hope this will bring more traffic and connect us with more cousins!
New and Improved…a New Photo is Revealed…
I hope you find my new and improved blog a bit easier to navigate and read. The overhaul was long overdue. As always, your comments and feedback are always welcome. If you can leave a message in the comments section below. Or send an email to admin@hogueconnect.com. Thanks for returning to The Hogue Connection!
As promised here is that picture I promised…

This is a picture of my great-great grandmother, Mary Jane Bates Hogue, second wife of William M. It comes via the photo collection of my cousin Mike Morgan. Since I can’t do much about the way folks use this image, please give Mike credit for its use. He does have it on his Ancestry page, and that’s the first time I’ve seen it out on the world wide web. I feel it’s a world premiere of sorts! Thanks Mike!
