Hello and welcome back to The Hogue Connection! I thought we would do a bit of a Family Focus recap of my articles written to this point. So far, there have been five in total. These articles cover the children and grandchildren of William M. and Mary Jane Hogue. My goal here is to do a deep dive into the Hogue line by presenting the info I’ve gathered to this point.

I didn’t think I would end up with so much detail on these families at first. But, once you let the various algorithms work for you, more information comes to the surface. Also, many other cousins have added things to the database, so we end up with much more than expected. I think you’ll find the statistics interesting.

Let’s Recap William M. ‘s Two Families…

William M. Hogue married his first wife, Sarah Strawn on 3 May 1846, in Murray County, Georgia:

Mary Adaline Hogue (1851-1921)

William left his first family in 1859 and married Mary Jane Bates (1839-1908) on 23 Dec 1861 in Cleveland, TN.

Mary Jane Bates (1839-1908)

They had six children:

Aldamanda Josephine Hogue (1861-1929)

Cordelia Leona Hogue (1864-1941)

Interesting Statistics Abound…

I developed a cousin chart to track the descendants of Charley and Nora Hogue. To date, I have “collected” 113 descendants. I’m sure there are more: I don’t have close enough relationships with many of my second cousins to track more of their grandkids. Still, at 113 people, you can see how the number could grow at a high rate.

My next Family Focus article will be on the children and grandchildren of Charley from his two marriages. If you add in the number of Charley’s descendants to the numbers of that of his siblings, it adds up to 54 children and 198 grandchildren from the family of William M. and Mary Jane Hogue. Then, if you add in the kids from William’s first marriage, it just shoots up from there. Their oldest son, Jackson M. Hogue, was married twice and had 12 kids! (Don’t worry Carmen, I’ll get to that Family Focus soon!)
